Hay Farm in Loudon, Tennessee: Tested Horse Hay From Freedom Farm

Lab-tested, barn-stored horse hay from our 270-acre family farm in Loudon.

Freedom Farm Hay is a 270-acre, first-generation family hay farm at 3060 Old Kingston Road in Loudon, Tennessee. We grow horse-quality hay, test it in a lab, and store it in the barn so it stays clean until it gets to your stable. The farm has been going since 1993.

If you are looking for a hay farm in East Tennessee that can tell you what is actually in the bale, this page explains what we grow, how we handle it, and how to get it.

What We Grow and Who It’s For

Our focus is horse hay. That means hay grown, cut, and stored with horses in mind, not just whatever is left over after the cattle are fed. We also offer horse-quality and low-sugar options for owners who have to watch what their horses eat.

Our customers include stables, ranchers, and horse handlers across the region, as well as individual horse owners. If you want to see everything we currently have, see all of our horse hay for sale in Loudon, TN.

Why Testing Matters for Horse Hay

Two bales can look the same and feed very differently. Color and smell tell you a little, but they do not tell you the sugar level, protein, or fiber. That is why our hay is lab-analyzed and tested. You get real numbers instead of a guess, which helps when you are feeding a horse with specific needs or planning a ration for a whole barn.

You can see how we approach it on our tested forage analysis page. If you have questions about what a horse in your care needs, our horse nutrition guide is a good place to start. Your vet or an equine nutritionist should make the final call on any special diet.

How Our Hay Is Stored

Hay that sits outside gets weathered, dusty, and moldy. Ours is barn-stored, which protects it from rain and sun and keeps the dust and mold down. Clean hay matters for horses, since they are sensitive to dust and mold in their feed.

If you want tips on keeping hay in good shape once it is at your place, see our delivery and storage page.

What Affects the Price of Hay

Hay prices change from one lot to the next. A few things drive the cost:

  • Type and quality. Horse-quality and low-sugar hay takes more care to grow and handle than general feed hay.
  • Bale size. Our small square bales are 2-string, about 14x18x35 inches, and weigh 48 to 50 pounds.
  • Quantity. Buying for a whole barn is different from buying a few bales.
  • Pickup or delivery. Distance and load size affect delivery cost.

Right now, the prices on our hay page run from $9.00 to $21.00 per bale, depending on variety and grade. For a current quote, call us or place an order.
