Tested Horse Hay & Forage Analysis
Eliminate Nutritional Guesswork with Certified Laboratory Analysis
At Freedom Farm, we believe you should never have to guess about your horse’s diet. Every harvest we produce undergoes rigorous laboratory forage testing to guarantee chemical composition and absolute safety. We specialize in offering clean, certified tested horse hay you can feed with complete confidence.
Why Forage Analysis Matters
Forage represents up to 80-100% of a horse’s daily intake. Minor changes in sugar, starch, protein, or moisture can impact their health. Working with Equi-Analytical laboratories, we provide a complete hay analysis sheet for every batch of hay stored in our barns. This allows you to review crude protein (CP), digestible energy, moisture, and non-structural carbohydrates (NSC).
Colic & Founder Prevention
By monitoring the absolute moisture level and fiber content, we guarantee clean, dust-free forage that reduces the risk of respiratory issues and colic.
Metabolic & Insulin Care
For horses prone to laminitis, equine metabolic syndrome (EMS), or Cushing’s disease, we offer specialized grass hay tested to guarantee NSC levels below 12%.
Understanding Key Forage Metrics
When reviewing our tested horse hay reports, these are the primary metrics we monitor to ensure premium quality:
Non-Structural Carbohydrates
The sum of water-soluble carbohydrates (WSC) and starch. Easy keepers and metabolic horses require NSC levels below 12% to prevent laminitis flares.
Crude Protein
Crucial for muscle repair and development. Performance horses and growing foals require higher levels, while maintenance horses do well on moderate protein.
Relative Feed Value
An index combining digestibility and dry matter intake. Premium equine hay typically rates between 90 and 120+ RFV.
